On 14 September 2025, KIT Chipdesign House successfully completed a tapeout of the PSoC internship SoC. The IHP SG13G2 130nm Open PDK was used for the tapeout of the open-source design with an area of 3.42 mm². Starting in WS25/26, students will learn about this chip design flow – right up to tapeout – in the course. Further information on the KCH website.

At the conference "AI & WE - Shaping the future responsibly" on September 30, 2025 in Berlin, Dr.-Ing. Tanja Harbaum from KIT presented the German-French research project KIHT - Kaligo-based Intelligent Handwriting Teacher. The intelligent pen system shows how artificial intelligence can support learning to write and personalize education.

On July 25, 2025, the KIT Faculties of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology and Mechanical Engineering celebrated their Faculty Day together for the first time. Around 300 guests experienced a festive event with inspiring lectures, award ceremonies and special honors - including the "Golden Doctorate" for Dr.-Ing. Sanda Wolf, who was the first woman to earn her doctorate at the faculty over 50 years ago. Dean Prof. Eric Sax spoke of a "day full of pride, emotions and future prospects".

At the beginning of September, Prof. Becker's annual doctoral retreat took place in the historic university town of Speyer. Doctoral students from the institute, research center, and industry presented their research, engaged in intensive discussions, and received valuable feedback. In addition to the professional exchange, a varied supporting program—ranging from a visit to the Technik Museum to cozy game nights—provided inspiration, team spirit, and lasting impressions.

Five ITIV students have developed an innovative robot demonstrator based on the open-source Turtle Robot. With revised mechanics, electronics and software, the handy robot brings technology to life and offers prospective students practical insights into electrical engineering and robotics. The project demonstrates creative teamwork, practical studies at KIT and the innovative strength of our students.

On July 29, 2025, a group of pupils from Tulla-Gymnasium Rastatt was a guest at ITIV. Under the motto "Your entry into the world of microcontrollers", the young people explored the exciting world of microelectronics, programmed their first own applications and gained fascinating insights into current research projects during a tour of ITIV, IPQ and IHE. A joint lunch with researchers rounded off the eventful day.

On 22 July 2025, the institute contact fair of the ETIT faculty organized by VDE Karlsruhe took place in the KIT Audimax. Students were able to find out directly from lecturers and researchers about specializations, research projects, student assistant positions and final theses - in a relaxed atmosphere with pretzels and drinks.

1Strengthening German-Chinese research cooperation - Delegation from Tongji University visits ITIV

From July 17 to 27, 2025, the 2nd Sino-German International Graduate Academic Forum took place under the motto "Intelligent Technology and Green Development". Organized by Tongji University, the trip also led to KIT. The focus was on joint research interests such as embedded systems, intelligent sensor technology and sustainable technologies - as well as an exchange on future collaborations in KIT's anniversary year.

.Congratulations to Jacob Langer on successfully completing his promotion

On July 18, 2025, Jacob Langner successfully defended his dissertation on the topic of “Globally optimal, data-driven application of longitudinal and lateral driving functions.” The work deals with the development of a process that enables realistic and efficient coordination of driver assistance systems through targeted driving tests. On 13.06.2025 it was time again for this year's institute excursion! We set off from ITIV at 9.00 a.m. in great, warm summer weather. The excursion took us to Strasbourg in Stadtmobil vehicles, where teams completed an outdoor escape game. The day strengthened team spirit, offered time to explore the city and ended with a cozy barbecue evening.

Prof. Eric Sax, Dean at KIT, met the Kenyan Ambassador, Her Excellency Ms. Orina. The topic was the expansion of distance learning for students in Kenya. The NGO Liberating Education Organization already operates learning hubs in Africa. The plan is to offer KIT lectures on topics such as artificial intelligence online in Kenya in the future. The aim is to significantly facilitate access to academic education.
