A day full of innovations and hands-on activities at KIT

Experience science up close - actively shape technology
ITIV

More than 20,000 science enthusiasts of all ages made the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology's (KIT) big Visitors' Day a success on May 17, 2025. In friendly spring weather, they experienced excellent hands-on science in institute buildings, lecture halls and libraries as well as outdoors and in show tents.

At the same time, numerous young people informed themselves about the wide range of courses on offer at the University of Excellence KIT at the Campus Day integrated into the event.

Under the motto "From Transistors to AI", visitors to the ITIV were able to experience the exciting development from classic electronics to modern AI technologies up close.

A special highlight was the hands-on workshop, where technology enthusiasts could solder their own KCH semiconductor circuit board. This hands-on experience not only offered an insight into the basics of electronics, but also the opportunity to get active and realize their own small project.

The KIT demonstrators presented a number of impressive research projects and invited visitors to talk directly to the researchers and try out the latest technologies:

  • Open6GHub: Here, guests were able to immerse themselves in the world of mobile technology and learn how the next generation of mobile communications is being developed.

  • ZuSE-KI-mobil: This station offered a first-hand insight into the use of artificial intelligence in mobile devices and applications.

  • CAVIL: Visitors received information on the latest advances in connected and autonomous vehicle technology.

  • REALSIMLab: A special experience was the virtual drive across the KIT campus, where visitors were allowed to take the wheel themselves.

  • KIHT: Here it was shown how an intelligent digital pen can revolutionize the learning of handwriting.

The open day at KIT offered all interested parties the opportunity to play an active role in shaping the future of technology. We are already looking forward to next year and to many more exciting innovations!
