The ITIV presents project results at the conference ‘AI & US. Shaping the future responsibly’

On September 30, 2025, the "AI & WE - Shaping the Future Responsibly" conference of the Plattform Lernende Systeme took place in Berlin. The event brought together leading experts from science, business, politics and society to discuss the future of artificial intelligence (AI) in Germany and Europe.Dr.-Ing. Tanja Harbaum from the Institute for Information Processing Technology (ITIV) at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) presented the Franco-German research project KIHT - Kaligo-based Intelligent Handwriting Teacher - as part of the accompanying exhibition. The aim of the project, in close cooperation with STABILO International GmbH, is to develop an intelligent digital pen that supports the learning of handwriting. The pen uses inertial sensor technology to reconstruct the writing trace and interacts with an app that customizes exercises and automatically synchronizes data.
The conference offered numerous opportunities for professional exchange. The project met with lively interest among the participants and new contacts were made. A particular highlight was the keynote speech by Marc-Uwe Kling, whose creative and critical view of AI provided a change of pace.
The KIHT project impressively demonstrates how AI technology can be used in education to relieve teachers and individualize learning processes. Participation in the platform conference underlines the social relevance and innovative power of research at ITIV.
