In October 2025, an ITIV delegation led by Prof. Jürgen Becker traveled to China to deepen existing scientific collaborations and provide new impetus for joint research projects. Stops on the trip included Tsinghua University in Beijing and Shanghai Jiao Tong and Tongji University in Shanghai.

The focus was on workshops on current research topics such as hardware/software co-design, efficient AI models and reliable AI for safety-critical applications. The ITIV representatives presented their work to an international audience of PhD students, PostDocs and Master students and exchanged ideas intensively with renowned Chinese scientists such as Prof. Yu Wang (Tsinghua) and Prof. Guohao Dai (Jiao Tong).

Presentations by the ITIV delegation:

  • Checkpoint-based Integration of Early Exits for Automotive ML - Matthias Stammler

  • Dendrocentric Intelligence for Low-Power Event-Based Systems - Jann Krausse

  • Dependable AI Inference in Safety-critical Applications - Julian Höfer

  • Adaptive Control for High-Throughput Data Acquisition Systems - Felix Frombach

A special highlight was Prof. Becker's participation in the "Europe-China University Presidents Dialogue Forum", where he gave a much-noticed statement on the future of joint engineering education in the open-source age: "Innovative Sino-European Alliances & Joint Engineering Studies in the Open-Source Age".

The trip underlines ITIV's long-standing partnership with leading Chinese universities and paves the way for future research stays and joint projects in the field of AI hardware and system design.
