Summary of the dissertation

During his thesis, Jalal Mostafa proposed Data Acquisition Function Virtualization (DFV), a new data acquisition paradigm in scientific infrastructures and experiments.

DFV leverages high-performance data transfer technologies and computer virtualization to eliminate the need for a dedicated computer cluster to run software-based data acquisition functions at a scientific infrastructure site.

The new paradigm has been evaluated on the KATRIN scientific infrastructure and its new TRISTAN detector upgrade at the KIT Campus Nord, reducing the required computing resources to process a 200 Gbps stream by a factor of 2.67.
