Context

Electrification of coaches is essential for the environmentally friendly mobility of tomorrow. However, the limited range of battery-electric buses presents bus operators with new challenges. Optimizing energy efficiency and thus the range of coaches is becoming increasingly important and should support the electrification of long-distance mobility.

When using electrified buses, routes must be adapted to the energy requirements, which depend on a number of external factors. These include the outside temperature, the altitude profile of the route and the current traffic situation. A prediction model for determining future energy requirements is advantageous for the efficient operation of buses.

Goals

  • Literature research on the current state of the art
  • Identification of prediction data and sources
  • Simulation of the energy demand of an electrified bus
  • Implementation of a prediction model with subsequent optimization and validation

Requirements

  • Programming skills in C/ C++ and Python/ Matlab
  • Basic knowledge of machine learning and neural networks
  • Independent and solution-oriented way of working
