Evaluation of Vector HiL systems for medical devices
Context
The cost of testing medical technology systems is constantly increasing. This is due to the increasing complexity of the systems and the strict regulatory requirements. A promising solution for overcoming this challenge is the automation of test cases in the form of hardware-in-the-loop (HiL). HiL makes it possible to integrate real hardware components into a simulated environment in order to carry out comprehensive and realistic tests.
The current development environment uses NI PXI systems with LabView and TestStand software as a framework for automated testing. This combination provides a powerful and flexible platform for the development and execution of test cases. LabView enables graphical programming and easy integration of hardware, while TestStand is a test management tool that automates and manages test sequences.
A possible alternative is the implementation of a framework based on Vector systems and CANoe software. Vector systems are known for their reliability and performance in vehicle diagnostics and communication. As a comprehensive development, test and simulation environment, CANoe offers a wide range of possible applications. Originally designed for the automotive industry, the software is also used in other areas such as medical technology.
Aims
The aim of the work is to comprehensively evaluate the alternative solution and to work out the respective advantages and disadvantages of a possible system change. The following aspects in particular are to be considered as part of the evaluation:
- What specific hardware and software limitations does the alternative system have compared to the solution currently in use? In particular, factors such as processor performance, memory resources and the maximum number of signals that can be processed should be analyzed.
- To what extent is it possible to transfer the existing simulations and test scripts to the alternative system? If migration is possible, the effort involved should also be estimated.
Requirements
- Independent way of working and creative way of thinking
- Programming skills in LabView
- The work will be carried out at Getinge AB in Rastatt and thus offers the possibility of a strong practical relevance.
