Summary of the dissertation

Christina Erler's doctoral thesis systematically examines the architecture of decentralized health data infrastructures using blockchain technology. The aim of the thesis is to develop a decision-making model that enables a structured approach to identifying and evaluating architectural decisions, thereby supporting the architecture of decentralized systems. The model is validated using two use cases: a system architecture for self-sovereign networking of primary care and a data trust model for the secondary use of medical data for research purposes. In the use cases, key requirements and threats are analyzed and system architectures are derived based on this analysis. Finally, the decision model is methodically embedded in the software architecture process to ensure its practical applicability and reusability.
