Staying Safe on the Road for Research
<Text is generated, please wait...>

A team of researchers from KIT’s Institute for Information Processing Technology (ITIV) and the FZI Research Center for Information Technology completed a driving training program with 12-meter-long city buses at the Munich Transport Authority (MVG).

Participants included Yuna Haas and Luca Seidel, doctoral students in Prof. Dr.-Ing. Eric Sax’s team at ITIV, as well as Nina Majer and Lars Fischer, who are pursuing their doctorates under Prof. Dr.-Ing. Sören Hohmann at KIT’s Institute for Control Systems (IRS) and conducting research at the FZI.

The training is intended to enable the test vehicles used in the MINGA research project to move safely and in a controlled manner on the Campus East in the future. In the MINGA project, KIT, the FZI, Stadtwerke München, Ebusco, and the City of Munich are jointly researching the use of automated bus platoons for urban public transit. The target is to further improve efficiency, safety, and quality of life in urban traffic through innovative technologies.

Special thanks go to instructor Thomas Brandl from MVG, who guided the participants through the driving training in a practical and competent manner.
