On February 9, 2026, representatives of ITIV from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), the FZI Research Center for Information Technology and Valeo met at the Institute for Information Processing Technology (ITIV). The aim of the meeting was to discuss current research topics and identify potential joint focal points for future cooperation.

The contact goes back to a conversation between Prof. Jürgen Becker and Valeo CTO Joachim Mathes at the Autonomous Driving symposium organized by the BMBF in December 2025. As CTO of the Valeo Brain Division, Joachim Mathes plays a key role in shaping the company's technological direction in the areas of software-defined vehicle architectures and automated driving. Valeo showed great interest in the CeCaS demonstration vehicle, which presents new approaches in the field of modern vehicle architectures.

Experts from research and industry came together for the meeting.
Traveling from Valeo were:

  • Joachim Mathes (CTO)

  • Frank Moesle (Driving Automation System Architecture and Strategy Manager)

  • Mena Nagiub (Lead System Architect)

On the part of KIT and FZI participated:

The discussions essentially revolved around three topics:

  • Current research activities of the three partners - from modern vehicle architectures to software-defined systems.

  • Common interests and possible cooperation approaches where synergies are emerging.

  • A joint lunch, which provided space for in-depth discussions and personal encounters.

For all participants, the meeting offered valuable insights into the respective fields of expertise - particularly in the areas of EE architectures, software-defined vehicles, automotive computing and automation. ITIV and FZI see Valeo as a strong potential partner for future research projects.
