Perfusion analysis as part of an AI-based monitoring app for patients with chronic skin diseases

Hautanalyse FZI

Context

The goal of the project HybridVITA is contactless dermatological assessment in chronic skin diseases using a patient smartphone. This includes not only the classical observation of texture or skin lesions, but also skin color analysis and perfusion. For this purpose, the pulse is measured by means of video-based photoplethysmography observation at an affected skin region and perfusion is to be inferred by the time offset to a reference measurement. The analysis of perfusion will help to monitor disease progression.

Tasks

  • Extensive literature research on the state of the art and science
  • Implementation of perfusion monitoring and integration into the monitoring app.
  • Analysis of the results and evaluation of the usability of different skin regions as well as different image quality

Requirements

  • You are motivated, self-initiated and work conscientiously
  • Your study focus is on information technology, signal processing or computer vision
  • You have experience with Python and app development
