Summary of the dissertation
On 29.09.2025, Johannes Plaum, doctoral student of Prof. Eric Sax, successfully defended his dissertation entitled: "Release argumentation of highly automated commercial vehicles compared to human drivers". Automated driving promises enormous opportunities for safety, comfort and efficiency. But one of the biggest challenges remains: How do we prove that highly automated vehicles are safe - and so safe that society trusts them? In his work, Johannes Plaum develops a structured process to comprehensibly link acceptance criteria to prove the absence of an unreasonable risk with scenarios and real data - always in comparison to the human driver as a reference.
