We congratulate Lintao Toni Fan on successfully completing his doctorate!

The ITIV extends its warmest congratulations to Lintao Toni Fan on the successful defense of his dissertation titled “Contactless Determination of Wind Parameters Based on Particle Streak Velocimetry.”
The doctorate was supervised by Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Wilhelm Stork (ITIV). The co-advisor was Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Cornelius Neumann.
As part of his dissertation, Lintao Toni Fan focused on the development and investigation of an optical measurement method for the non-contact determination of wind parameters.
The thesis examines an optical wind sensor for the non-contact determination of wind parameters under various conditions. The measurement principle falls under the category of particle-based optical flow measurement and is based on Particle Streak Velocimetry (PSV). A key feature of the approach under investigation is that existing airborne particles are optically detected and analyzed without the active addition of particles.
The work combines methods from optical metrology, image processing, and flow analysis. The target is to achieve robust and flexible measurement of wind parameters without having to position sensors directly in the measurement field.
This research builds on Lintao Toni Fan’s career at KIT. After completing his studies in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, he has been working as a scientist at ITIV since 2019. His work lies at the intersection of optical metrology, image processing, and adaptive camera-based systems.
