Recognition and behavioral analysis of zoo animals in camera images

Zoo
.

In the Karlsruhe Zoological Garden, endangered animal species are selectively bred and thus preserved. To improve the care of exotic species, keepers and veterinarians need to know the animals' behavior and adapt environments and situations if necessary. Based on camera images, new methods of analyzing large amounts of data will help to record and analyze animal behavior patterns and to interpret them at the end.

Goals of the work

  • Development of a camera-based recognition of animals and classification and interpretation of their behavior
  • Coordination of requirements with veterinary medicine in the Zoological Garden. (Parts of the thesis will also take place on site).
  • Research, analysis and comparison of different methods to extract the relevant data

We expect

  • Good knowledge in the field of image processing and application in object recognition
  • Experience in working with AI toolchains
