The zoo Karlsruhe keeps endangered species for conservation purposes. In order to improve the appropriateness of the facilities for the different species, zoo keepers and veterinarians need to know the behavior of the animals and change the enclosures accordingly. Currently we use an openly available audio recorder. As this recorder is limited in performance and configurability, we aim to create our own device. This will have to be designed with future extensions in mind.

Goals of the work

  • Identify requirements for the sensor platform (Thesis will be carried out partially on site)
  • Development of embedded system for audio recording and processing
  • Extension of the system with chosen peripherals (only MA)
  • First-time operation of the system
