Simulation of heat sources for heating of electric city buses

Simulation of heat sources for heating of electric city buses

Bus

Context

In vehicles with electric powertrains, the topic of heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) is becoming increasingly important due to its influence on energy consumption and range. Various heat sources (heat pump, electric heater, braking resistor, component waste heat) are usually available for heating. Possible optimization potentials for energy efficiency lie in the dynamic selection of different heat sources during operation. Simulation models for calculating the electrical consumption are required as a basis for this.

Tasks

  • Identify and characterize the relevant properties of different heat sources in electric city buses
  • Development of a simulation model in Simulink / Simscape of the individual heat sources and their overall network
  • Set up a calculation method to determine the energy consumption for given simulation parameters
  • (Optional for MA) Design of a cost function for optimization of energy consumption

Prerequisites

  • Programming knowledge in Matlab/Simulink
  • Independent and solution-oriented approach
  • Basics in (thermal) modeling and simulation desirable
