An important component of automated driving is the communication between vehicles. In this thesis, a vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) system for a platooning application will be developed and tested between two vehicles.  In so-called platooning, the automated following of several vehicles with the help of a technical control system without mechanical coupling in a small distance.

The thesis is supervised in cooperation with a bus manufacturer and there is the possibility to work directly on site for a limited period of time. The company is located in Deurne in the Netherlands near Eindhoven.

Goals:

  • Introduction to the structure and exchange of CAN messages
  • Implementation and test of a V2V communication interface
  • Evaluation of the transmission properties (e.g. stability, latencies)  

Requirements:

  • Interest in hardware, connected vehicles and data processing
  • Good programming knowledge in C/C++ or Python
  • Experience with ROS advantageous
  • Good English skills;  Independent and solution-oriented way of working
