Umfeld

Flexible and wearable sensors are getting closer to market and hybrid flexible electronics will be integrated in many end-user products. Especially in sports and healthcare, these new electronic sensors elements offer numerous possibilities. A shirt with hybrid flexible sensors and actuators is able to track motions in real-time and gives feedback to a user. Within this thesis there will be a strong cooperation with the Robert Bosch GmbH and ITK Engineering GmbH. The textile-based sensors and actuators will be provided in order to enable quick prototyping and measurable results.

Aufgabe

The primary goal of this thesis is the conceptual design and a prototype setup of an autonomous sensor network for tracking motions of the upper body in real-time.

Whereas the textile-based sensors supply signals that indicate acceleration and rotation. The prototype should prove a modular concept for the communication and synchronization between different sensor nodes working in a cluster, as well as for the efficient preprocessing of the collected data and the upload/streaming to a connected edge node. For the various communication channels different protocols – wired (such as SPI, I2C), wireless (such as BLE, ZigBee) – should be considered.
